Presentation of the Málaga Silver Economy Hub

16/03/2023.- Today, at the Promálaga Economistas incubator, the press conference for the presentation of the Malaga Silver Economy Hub. During the event, Luis Castillo, president of the Málaga Silver Economy Hub and SeniorsLeading; Rosa Sánchez, Councilor for City Promotion and Investment Capture, who will occupy the Vice Presidency of Public Affairs of the Hub on behalf of the City Council; Natalia Sánchez Romero, Executive Vice President of the Confederation of Businessmen of Malaga (CEM), who will hold the Vice President of Business Affairs of the Hub; and Nuria Domínguez, vice president of the DigitalSeniors Association and general director of institutional relations of the Hub.

Luis Castillo has stated that The main objective of the Málaga Silver Economy Hub is to act as one of the main vectors for the creation of economic, social and innovation value for Málaga, Andalusia and Spain. He also highlighted in his speech that the Silver Economy generates more than 25% of GDP in Spain and Europe and that our nation is in the best position to lead this vital segment of the economy in the EU. In the final part of his speech, he also mentioned the DigitalSeniors Association, the Malaga Impact Hub, KAMIWAZA 2020 and CIONET, which together with SeniorsLeading, the Malaga City Council and the CEM, have been the founders of the Hub.

In her speech, Rosa Sánchez underlined the importance of this HUB "which joins the broad and consolidated innovative, economic and entrepreneurial ecosystem of Malaga, introducing a differentiating and unique element since it focuses on people over 50 years of age. This association comes to strengthen and value the contribution of this segment of the population to the city and to society in general and is perfectly aligned with the actions carried out by the Malaga City Council to meet their needs, services and, ultimately, improving their quality of life in all aspects”.

Natalia Sánchez has referred to the Málaga Silver Economy Hub as an "exciting proposal that serves a growing and very attractive market segment that, offering equal opportunities and challenges, constitutes a strategic vector for the creation of economic, social and innovative value”. The Executive Vice President/General Secretary of CEM has recalled, on the other hand, the success obtained in previous initiatives developed through public-private collaboration in Malaga, which will undoubtedly be repeated with the launch of this Hub.

On the other hand, Nuria Domínguez has presented the keys to the Málaga Silver Economy Hub, highlighting the activities that the Hub plans to carry out and how The Silver Economy transversally affects many sectors of the economy such as health and well-being, tourism, food, sports, finance and insurance, real estate, education and leisure among others.

In the final part of his speech, he listed the first organizations that have confirmed their intention to join the Hub, such as Fundación Transforma España, Inetum, Confassociazioni España, Spainsif, Sacyr, AON Broker Seguros, Fundación Empresa y Sociedad or Ama Technology.

Malaga Silver Economy Hub

This association's main objectives are: to facilitate the promotion and dissemination of the Silver Economy and its benefits as a generator of economic and social wealth in the city of Malaga, its province, Andalusia and the rest of Spain; the positioning of the city of Malaga and its province, both nationally and internationally, as benchmarks and leaders in the Silver Economy; the attraction of investments and financing from the private and public sectors to the Association for the development and fulfillment of its purposes; the attraction of professional talent of all ages who contribute high value to the achievement of the goals of the Málaga Silver Economy Hub.

Also included among its objectives is the attraction of new partners who identify with the purposes and contribute to the achievement of the same of the Málaga Silver Economy Hub, and in particular the attraction of start-ups, scale-ups, companies, corporations, public administrations, universities, research and knowledge centers, business schools, laboratories and venture capital funds. For the fulfillment of the same will be carried out, among other activities, events, conferences and master classes; and delivery of workshops, seminars and face-to-face and online training courses.

The Association plans to establish its headquarters in the BIC EURONOVA building, in the Technological Park of Andalusia -Málaga TechPark.

What is the Silver Economy?

The European Union defines the Silver Economy as the set of products and services designed by companies, professionals and public administrations for people over 50 years of age and that they are a key demographic segment, both because of their large number, which is close to 200 million citizens, and because they are at the forefront of the consumption capacity of products and services.
