Núcleo, the Semiconductor Innovation Hub promoted by the Malaga City Council and managed through the municipal company Promálaga, belonging to the Innovation, Digitalization, and Investment Attraction Department, has launched its activities. This new space, located within the Promálaga Coworking facilities at Malaga TechPark, aims to consolidate Malaga's position as an international leader in microelectronics innovation and development, offering entrepreneurship programs, specialized training, and knowledge transfer for startups, technology companies, and researchers.
The Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, visited the facilities today accompanied by the Councillor for Innovation, Digitalization and Investment Attraction, Alicia Izquierdo. Also present at the event were the CEO of Innova IRV, Eduardo Valencia; the Director of the imec Spain Foundation, Karel Van; the Director of Public Policy Projects at the EOI Foundation, Fernando Garrido; the Rector of the University of Málaga (UMA), Teodomiro López; and the CEO of Málaga TechPark, Felipe Romera.
During the visit, attendees toured the Núcleo facilities and learned firsthand about the spaces dedicated to business incubation, the project's lines of action, and the first programs that will be developed in this new innovation hub.

Linkage with the IMEC
The initiative is closely linked to the future establishment in the city of imec, one of the world's most advanced microelectronics and nanotechnology research centers, which will set up its first center outside of Belgium in Málaga. The arrival of imec, which will use Núcleo's facilities during the construction of its headquarters in Málaga, will position the city among the leading European hubs in the sector and will lead to the creation of more than 400 direct jobs.

Núcleo has the capacity to incubate more than 20 companies specializing in microelectronics, semiconductors, and photonics, and will develop pre-incubation, incubation, and acceleration programs aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of startups and technology companies. Specifically, it has 26 incubation offices and 40 coworking spaces.
It will also serve as a hub for knowledge transfer between universities, research institutions, and businesses, facilitating the creation of new business opportunities and the development of innovative projects. Its objectives include promoting technological entrepreneurship, attracting specialized talent, and training new professionals in strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0, aerospace systems, and connected vehicles. Furthermore, the center will develop specific initiatives to promote youth employment and training in technologies related to semiconductor design and manufacturing.
Entrepreneurship, training and knowledge transfer
In this context, Promálaga has signed two agreements with the EOI Foundation, an entity attached to the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, for the development of entrepreneurship and professional training programs linked to the microelectronics and semiconductor industry. These initiatives will promote pathways for the creation and consolidation of innovative companies, as well as specialized training programs aimed primarily at young beneficiaries of the National Youth Guarantee System, with the goal of facilitating their entry into the workforce in a high value-added sector with a growing demand for qualified professionals. Furthermore, Núcleo has already begun hosting activities focused on knowledge generation and specialized training. Among these, the international chip design workshop with Tiny Tapeout, led by Matt Venn, stands out. This initiative allowed students, professionals, and anyone interested in open hardware to learn firsthand about the complete process of integrated circuit design and validation. With this project, Málaga reinforces its position as a leading ecosystem for technological innovation, fostering connections between talent, entrepreneurship, research, and industry in one of the sectors with the greatest future potential.
