A total of 72 international companies choose Malaga for their headquarters and expansion in the last four years

Since 2019, software, consulting and telecommunications companies, among other sectors, have joined the innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem of the city, with an estimate of more than 6.400 jobs

27 international companies have settled in 2022, which means exceeding the figures prior to the pandemic

31/01/2023.- A total of 72 international companies have chosen Malaga for their headquarters and expansion of activity between 2019 and 2022, with a total forecast of 6.469 jobs, according to the data from the companies themselves. These figures fall within the Balance of the activity of the Investor's Office, whose job is to contribute to economic recovery, attract international companies that create new jobs and advise those who decide to establish themselves in the city, and which was presented this morning by the councilor for City Promotion and Investment Recruitment , Rosa Sanchez.

By breakdown by year, in 2022 there have been 27 companies that have settled, with an estimate of some 2.767 jobs; and in 2021 there were also 27 companies that chose the city, with an estimate of 2.770 jobs. Therefore, the figures prior to the pandemic are exceeded since in 2019 there were 12 companies and 751 jobs; and, in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, 6 foreign companies established themselves in the city, creating some 181 jobs.

Regarding the profile of those installed in Malaga from 2019 to 2022, it should be noted that they belong to various productive sectors, among which stand out with (with 21 companies), consultancy (10 companies), telecommunications (8 companies) and manufacturing (5 companies). It is followed by the investment, real estate, financial and education sectors with 3 companies each. Regarding the nationalities of these companies, the main ones have been United Kingdom (14 companies), United States (11 companies), Spain (7 companies), Sweden y France (5 companies each) and Germany, (4 companies).

Among the international companies installed in Malaga in 2022, it is worth noting the presence of CapGemini (France), Ernst & Young (United Kingdom) and CitiGroup (United States). The first with a specialized cyber defense center, the second with a global advisory center and the last to set up a European operations center for young financial analysts. In the latter case, the financial group highlights the choice of the city of Malaga "because of its high quality of life".

Due to the number of employees they have in Malaga, among the companies installed in 2022, SSantander with 700 employees. They are followed by Babel and Ernst & Young with 500 employees each, and CapGemini with 300.

Within the balance, it should be noted that in recent years the interest aroused by the city of Malaga and its innovative ecosystem as a place to set up new company headquarters or expand them has not been paralyzed. And the Investor's Office has contributed with its activity to create new business opportunities in the city derived from certain changes such as the implementation of teleworking.

CONSULTING SERVICES TO MORE THAN 520 COMPANIES

Among 2019 and 2022 The Investor's Office has attended and offered consulting services through telematic or face-to-face means to a total of 522 national and international companies. Specifically, in 2022 there have been 164 companies served. This figure is higher than the previous data and during the pandemic, since in 2021 152 companies were contacted; in 2020, with 92; and in 2019, with 114.

The companies served belong to various productive sectors, although in 2022 the one of computer software with 31 companies. This is followed by real estate companies with 22 companies, professional and scientific activities with 16, and financial and insurance activities with 12.

The 164 companies served in 2022 came from all over the world, but their main countries of origin have been Spain with 30 companies and the United States with 22 companies, followed by the United Kingdom (19), the Netherlands (12) and Germany (8), among others.

SUPPORT FOR THE INTERNATIONALIZATION OF COMPANIES

Another of the lines of action of the Investor's Office is the development and support of business meetings in Malaga and abroad. In the last four years, from 2019 to 2022, a total of 134 events have been organized or supported. In 2022 the Investor Office has organized 28 business events and meetings. In 2021 this figure stood at 19, in 2020 at 32 events and in 2019 at 55 events.

Among the events to support the internationalization of companies, it is worth highlighting the participation in the Dubai Expo Entrepreneurship Week, Riyadh World Entrepreneurship Congress (Saudi Arabia), international meeting of innovation and entrepreneurship 'Hangar 360' developed in Santiago de Chile, and the 'Unique Summit' event, previously called 'Global StartupCities Summit', which was held in December in Braga (Portugal). The Malaga delegation attended with companies, startups, entrepreneurs and investors to give visibility to the business development of Malaga, promote the internationalization of Malaga companies, connect with others startups  and attract European investors.

Likewise, the Investor's Office collaborates with different bilateral chambers of commerce, such as the German, British, French and Swedish chambers by organizing activities and presentations such as the British Investment Barometer in Spain.

It is also worth noting the annual elaboration of the Malaga Business Climate Barometer together with Ciedes Foundationas well as a attendance at professional fairs both in Malaga and abroad. Highlights include MIPIM, the largest international real estate investment fair held in Cannes; The District, Barcelona real estate show; Transfers, European Forum for Science, Technology and Innovation; Greencities, Urban Intelligence and Sustainability Forum; SIMED, the Mediterranean Real Estate Show, and the "VI Inspiring Women Leaders in the Digital Era", these last four events held in Malaga.

The Investor's Office also carries out activities with specialized means, such as the organization of events for international media correspondents to learn first-hand about the economic development of the city. Since 2019, 51 international delegations have also been received with a total of 640 delegates who have visited different projects, facilities and infrastructures in the city. Among the delegations attended, it is worth mentioning those of the embassies of Latvia, Armenia and the United States ambassador in Spain

PROMOTION OF MÁLAGA AS A BUSINESS DESTINATION

From this entity dependent on the area of ​​Promotion of the City and Capture of Investments, they also work to promote Malaga as a business destination. Within this strategy of projection and positioning of the city, a campaign has been launched at the airport to promote the city as 'Málaga, the Best Home Office', that is, as the best headquarters for companies. The campaign is mainly aimed at the Northern European market.

Regarding audiovisual material, audiovisual pieces have been made and disseminated in both Spanish and English that highlight the main attributes of Malaga as hub of business, innovation and talent, as well as the investment opportunities that Malaga has for both public and private investors with more than 90 strategic projects in the city.

Finally, the promotion of the city's candidacy for Expo 2027 Málaga 'The urban era: towards a sustainable city' it also helps to consolidate business interest in the destination.

ACTIONS FOR THE ATTRACTION AND RETENTION OF TALENT

PIONEERING INITIATIVE: 'MALAGAWORKBAY'

The expansion of teleworking and the possibility that many workers could choose their place of work led the Investor's Office to create the campaign 'MalagaWorkbay'. Framed within the municipal actions to contribute to the economic reactivation of the city, this initiative is based on a Internet portal with useful information aimed at this type of worker.

Since it was launched in February 2021 and until December 2022, the website has received 162.061 corresponding visits, with 47.747 different users.

It should be noted that 'MalagaWorkBay' has responded in writing to a total of 693 queries of various kinds from teleworkers who have requested more information about the city or asked questions.

The project also has #BayWorkers, a community currently made up of a total of 191 people who telework and they live in Malaga. The objective of this community is to identify these professionals and create spaces for common communication and cooperation that consolidate Malaga's position as one of the best places to telework.

You can be part of this community freelancers, businessmen, teleworkers and entrepreneurs who have put Malaga on their route. DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW MÁLAGA BRAND

In 2022, the Malaga City Council has promoted the public tender to develop the new territory brand for the city of Malaga. The winner was the Joint Venture Brida Imagina SL / Francisco Javier Torres with its draft titled 'Patio'. This territory brand represents all sectors and the city of Malaga in all its dimensions, with a transversal look capable of bringing together all the points of view of citizens, visitors, companies and institutions. Within the dissemination actions, the Investor's Office has launched a campaign on city tour buses to promote this new brand.
